Mikayla Raleigh was named the 2015-16 Leader of the Pack at halftime of Saturday’s Homecoming game. The Leader of the Pack Program, which awards a $2,000 scholarship to one NC State student each year, recognizes members of the Wolfpack who make outstanding contributions to NC State in the areas of leadership, scholarship and community service.
Finalists for the honor are selected based on grade-point average, a personal interview, extracurricular activities, written essays on their leadership and service experience and student-body vote. Raleigh says she hopes to lead others to greater service.
“My daily mission is to make sure that I leave NC State a better place than I found it,” she said. “I attack everything that I do with the mentality that I need to create opportunities for others because as a student athlete on the varsity cheerleading team, NC State has opened so many doors for me.”
Raleigh’s love for sports is evident in her efforts to expose more students to athletics programs and service activities on campus. “I have dedicated myself to this mission by creating an extracurricular sports program and annual clothing drive at the Brentwood Boys and Girls Club,” she said. “I also serve on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and lead a Marketing Team to raise scholarship money for the cheerleading program.”
