LeaderShape

Since its inception in 1986, The LeaderShape Institute has developed a national reputation as a premier leadership development program for young adults. The LeaderShape Institute is an intensive and energizing six-day program open to any participant, institution, or workplace interested in producing extraordinary results in an organization and developing a commitment to lead with a high level of integrity. Visionary Leaders Certificate

The Visionary Leaders Certificate (VLC) Program is a great way to experience the Leadership Development Series (LDS) and apply what you’ve learned while attending NC State. Participants who complete the program (requirements below) earn a Visionary Leaders Certificate signed by the Director of this office and the Associate Vice Provost for Student Leadership & Engagement. LDS (Leadership Development Series)

Study the many facets of leadership through interactive workshops and seminars. The LDS workshops provide the resources necessary to develop personal integrity, organizational understanding, communication skills, and an ethic of service. LEARN MORE

Service


Think big about service! Leadership and Civic Engagement provides many opportunities for participation in programs that focus on citizenship and service. From our record-setting blood drive to opportunities to do service on foreign soil, there are countless opportunities to get involved.

Campus Pals

Created in 2003, Campus Pals connects NC State students with area children for mentorship. Leadership and Civic Engagement and the YMCA of the Triangle (Alexander Family YMCA) partner in the after school program. Selected Pals (NC State students) are asked to commit to the program from October –  2016. LEARN MORE

Clinton Global Initiative University

Building on the successful model of the Clinton Global Initiative, which brings together world leaders to take action on global challenges, President William Jefferson Clinton launched the Clinton Global Initiative University (CGI U) in 2007. CGI U engages the next generation of leaders from college campuses around the world. NC State is a proud member of this network of colleges. Students with big ideas are invited to learn more about becoming a part of the NC State delegation to CGI U. LEARN MORE

Alternative Service Break

The Alternative Service Break (ASB) program is a unique learning experience in which students engage in direct service to a community, while being immersed in its culture and customs. Teams are led by students, and accompanied by faculty advisors. Throughout the trip, team members participate in a variety of cultural, educational, recreational and reflective activities to enhance their service experience. NC State students are invited to take part in one of over 20 ASB opportunities. LEARN MORE

Meal Packaging

Service NC State was established by Leadership and Civic Engagement and its partners as a way to impress upon new students the importance NC State places on outreach and engagement. LEARN MORE

Blood Drive

The blood drive is an annual Leadership and Civic Engagement event which aims to promote a culture of service on campus during the start of the fall semester. Each year, students serve alongside staff from the American Red Cross during the all day event which sees nearly 1,000 donors. LEARN MORE

Clinton Hunger Leadership Award

Undergraduate students with a passion to end hunger are invited to apply for the Clinton Hunger Leadership Award. Named in honor of President Bill Clinton for his commitment to humanitarian causes including the eradication of hunger, the award recognizes outstanding leadership in the movement to end hunger. Leadership and Civic Engagement Advocate Award

As a small team with a bold vision and big goals, the success of the center has been rooted in our partnerships on campus, in the community, and around the world. In honor of the many partners who embody the mission of Leadership and Civic Engagement, we present the Advocate Award annually as a part of the L.E.A.D. Awards program. LEARN MORE

Leadership and Civic Engagement Award for Excellence

The Award for Excellence is given each year to the NC State senior who provides outstanding leadership and service to the center and helps to advance our mission. LEARN MORE 

CNCS President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll

Each year, NC State University students, faculty, and staff dedicate hundreds of thousands of hours of community service and civic engagement efforts across the local and global community. The Corporation for National and Community Service President’s Higher Education Honor Roll highlights the efforts of colleges and universities that solve problems and engage students in civic engagement in meaningful and inspiring ways. Deborah S Moore Service Awards

The Deborah S. Moore Service Awards recognize exemplary service and outstanding volunteerism by students and student organizations.  Deborah S. Moore, a NCSU graduate, served as the first volunteer coordinator of the NCSU Student Center. She made many contributions to society including volunteer work, teaching English to retired Spanish-speaking people and working with under-resourced individuals and people with disabilities. A Beaufort County native, Mrs. Moore was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charlie R. Singleton. The memorial was created in the Spring of 1977. The award is sponsored by Deborah’s siblings, Anthony Singleton, and wife-Ann, Charlene Boyd and husband-Charles and Muriel W. Moore, Deborah’s husband. LEARN MORE

Dr. Thomas H. Stafford Jr. Student Leadership Scholarship Endowment

In honor of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, Dr. Thomas H. Stafford, Jr., and his 41 years of service to the University, the Stafford Student Leadership Scholarship Endowment serves one or more NC State students who demonstrate financial need. LEARN MORE

L.E.A.D. Awards

The Student L.E.A.D. (Student Leadership, Engagement and Development) Awards program was establishing to recognize students and organizations for their contributions in service and co-curricular excellence. Awards are presented in three categories: Service (Deborah S. Moore Service Awards), Leadership (Wolfpack Leadership Challenge Awards), and Engagement (Student Organization Outstanding Achievement Awards). LEARN MORE

Leader of the Pack

The Leader of the Pack Program recognizes students who make outstanding contributions to NC State in the areas of leadership, scholarship and community service. Finalists for the honor are selected based on grade-point average, a personal interview, extracurricular activities, written essays on their leadership and service experience and student-body vote. The Leader of the Pack will be determined by the cumulative score from all phases of the process. The Leader of the Pack award is recognized at the Homecoming Football game. LEARN MORE 

NC Campus Compact Community Impact Student Award

Each year, NC State nominates a student for the North Carolina Campus Compact Community Impact Student Award.  One student is recognized from each member campus of the North Carolina Campus Compact.  The award may honor an individual for multiple or diverse forms of engagement including: volunteer service, service-learning, policy work, community organizing, advocacy, internships, or campus leadership. Student Organization Outstanding Achievement Award

The Student Organization Outstanding Achievement Award recognizes the amazing work of our student organization members and advisors. The award is presented to deserving student organizations, leaders, and advisors that have demonstrated excellence. Organizations can self-nominate or be nominated to different categories that best fits their achievement. LEARN MORE

Role Model Leader Award

The Role Model Leader Award recognizes local and national figures who impact the NC State campus through leadership in thought, service and advocacy.  Role Model Leaders must have demonstrated inspiration of NC State students in ways that further the missions and purpose of Student Leadership & Engagement at NC State. Campus organizations or departments having invited speakers, activists and leaders to campus who embody the qualities of a Role Model Leader, are encouraged to consider nominating those individuals for this award. Ronald C. Butler Visionary Leadership Award

The Ronald C. Butler Visionary Leader Award recognizes one Visionary Leadership Certificate program graduate for their outstanding certificate leadership portfolio. LEARN MORE

Wolfpack Leadership Challenge Awards

Since 1987, “The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership” has provided individuals and organizations with a framework for exemplary leadership. Authors Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner believe that, despite our differences, leadership exists in five common categories composed of observable skills and abilities. These five categories are the basis for the Wolfpack Leadership Challenge Awards described below. LEARN MORE
